Lesson: infinite loops Empty Lesson: infinite loops

Post by niquon715 Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:10 am

  • What is an infinite loop?

An infinite loop is when cards, when combined create a loop that never ends. There are two types of infinite loop, both with rules that duelists should know.

  • The No Net Change Loop

This is a type of infinite loop in which nothing happens and it is ILLEGAL. If this has been done accidentally, the player who started the no net change loop must go back to the offending summon or activation and the turn continues from there.

  • The Net Change Loop

This is a type of infinite loop in which something does happen and is LEGAL, so long as something is happening. a great example is Burn loops (Fusion gate chain material burn) . However, A loop where the only Net Change is the increase of a player's Life Points is considered a No Net Change, because a game cannot be ended due to a player having too many Life Points.

  • What about the other ones?

All other loops, such as the Quillbolt Loop, are controlled by a player and can be stopped at anytime when the player sees fit. Such loops are completely legal, but if it becomes a controlled No Net Change loop, the player cannot perform it; this would be a form of stalling and is not legal. An example would be a player using a Burn Quillbolt Loop when the opponent has Activated "Hallowed Life Barrier" for the turn.

A player cannot ever do a infinite loop repeatedly. Doing any loop repeatedly Can result in stalling and result in a gameloss or a warning for slow play.

In order to conduct an Infinite Loop that will produce results. You will show the loop to your opponent 2 or 3 times until they understand it. Then you ask them if they have anything or will stop the loop at any point. If not You state How many times you will do the loop and multiply the end result and do the 1 action all at once. such as a life gain loop you will state the number of times you do it then set your life to however much the loop increased it by.

However if the opponent wishes to stop the loop at anypoint they will communicate how many times they will allow you to do the loop.

And no Infinite is not a legal number to declare the loop. You cannot ever have Infinite Life points. The loop will end after the player has declared a Reasonable Number and the life points or draws will be set to that.(or whatever else the loop does).

If a Loop is meant to burn the opponent to 0 life points then repeat the steps above and then state how many times you do the loop in order to make the life points 0. Once done so if the opponent cannot stop the loop then they lose the duel. Refusing to lose the duel can result in penalties as even though the actions were not done your life is supposed to be reduced to zero due to the mandatory Loop Shortcut.

Gishki's don't loop, they just get out a Ziel quickly and recycle their cards over time, which isn't really a loop.
And if you don't go for Zielgigas 100% of the time, your doing something wrong

EDIT: I should also mention legal infinite loops can be considered stalling and get you a warning/disqualified on both DN and irl. So infinite loops aren't technically "legal" if your doing it for no purpose, but recycling monsters in a loop for Xyz, Synchro etc isn't infinite, but finite (as you can only have up to 4-5 Xyz/Synchro's on the field at a time (duh)). So be careful, as all infinite loops I'm pretty sure are illegal, but finite loops are legal

Sorry for the double post, but here's a brief description of the difference between infinite loops and finite loops

Infinite loops are 96% of the time made by complete accident, not by purpose. Doing it on purpose just waste the time of your opponent, you and the judge.

Finite loops DO NOT go on forever. Using a "burn infinite loop" is not possible, as your opponent has a finite number of life points. Same with cards in decks/hands etc

Point is, you CANNOT make a legal infinite loop, only finite loops, which is what can be considered recycling in some cases, as with Inzektors and Gishki's. Sorry for being nitpicky, but I didn't want to let misinformation spread

in the lesson i said that only infinate loops that have a goal are legal and gishkis do loop in deck out you can draw your whole deck put it back and draw it again and the point is to deckout your opponent

the recycling engine of gishki is what allows theses loops to happen you might be able to say my otk varient doesnt loop normally(but can) but the hand loops and deck outs are definately loops that are legal

DreamKiller, it's not an infinite loop. That would mean it would go on forever and is an illegal play. Gishki's have a FINITE engine. Half of the article is wrong

the deck is an infinate loop and can go on forever but you just deck out your opponent instead and there are tons of other legal infinate loops that can burn or have you gain lp
and i don't see how half the article is wrong when i'm just descibing the different types of loops

It CAN go on forever, which would get you a warning irl/on DN.
But it ends when your opponent decks out, which makes it finite

but it is an infinite loop that can also win you the game
the finite loops you are talking about are still infinite but end in the game being won you just don't have infinite cards or lp to run the loop forever so they are net change loops like i decribed in the article

no net change like the galatic god video are pointless and would get you a warning or kicked out but the gishki loop has a point

My finite loops aren't infinite, because they end.
If they didn't end they would be infinite.
Look up the definition of finite and infinite
