# Random Riddler....

## Random Riddler....

I know we used to have an archtype riddle game here but that isn't happening anymore.

Now that beastyboy (our stellarknight mod) wants some brain training I had the idea to just start a simple riddler.

It's simple:

1) I post a riddle here

2) you try to solve it and put answer AND how you did it in the replies

3) If there's a correct answer, I'll post a new riddle.

(you can always send me a riddle as suggestion)

so here we go with the next riddle:

You have a round cake that you want to devide in 8 pieces. Give me the least number of cuts you need to do that and explain how you have cut.

(2 possible correct ways to do it)

Good Luck

## Re: Random Riddler....

If 2 is company and 3 is a crowd, is simply there to toy with your mind, there is no normal saying for 4 & 5. that leaves it with having simply to do with math making the question what is 4 + 5, making the answer 9.

## Re: Random Riddler....

In a certain way it's correct. It's because I ask what IS four and five.... meaning I expect one answer.... saying four and five IS nine...

if I said what ARE four and five, then I had expected things like four is "this" and five is "that".

well done Reess, a new riddle will be up soon

## Re: Random Riddler....

There is no reason to add the 2 and 27, the 2 is already in the 27. Making the addition meaningless. Instead the 2 should be subtracted from the 27 to get their total of 25.

$30 (initial payment) = $25 (to clerk) + $2 (to bellhop) +$3 (refund)

all of it is already accounted for.

$30 (initial payment) = $25 (to clerk) + $2 (to bellhop) +$3 (refund)

all of it is already accounted for.

## Re: Random Riddler....

Correct again, the 2$ of the bellboy is already in the 27$ and should be subtracted instead of add. Making it 25$ what is the new price of the room.

Well done Reess.

This is a classic. You cannot add together the amount they paid plus the amount they owe in order to calculate how much they paid.Nukyur wrote:I know we used to have an archtype riddle game here but that isn't happening anymore.

so here we go with the next riddle:

3 guys enter a hotel and ask for a room.

the only room available costs 30$

Each man gives 10$, making it 30$ in total.

When the men went to their room, the manager remembers he had lowered the price to 25$

He gives 5$ to the elevator boy who has to give it to the men

In the elevator, the boy realizes you cant split 5$ into 3 parts.

So he gives each man 1$ and he keeps 2$

Now we are gonna calcutate back...

Each man has payed now 9$ (10-1) --> 3 x 9$ = 27$

The elevator boy has kept 2$ ---> 27$ + 2$ = 29$

Where is that last dollar????

Good Luck

This is what you did, turned into pure math:

3 * 10 =30

30-5=25

5-2= 3

[Implicit step: 10-1=9; 10-1=9, 10-1=9]

3*9 = 27

27+2 = 29 [What???!]

You see you took away 2 and then you added back that two. That does not work out. If we re-tracked and took this in a different direction-- we can calculate they paid 30. They lost 5 dollars; making it 25 dollars. The boy gave them 3 dollars, and they have 28 dollars in total. [28+2=30 making it a perfect equation] There is no way they could "each pay 9 dollars".

## Re: Random Riddler....

They have payed each 9 dollar. But the room was 25 dollar what had to be the goal. not the 30 that was started from.

it's like said earlier:

9x3 = 27

27-2 = 25 (the price of the room)

anyhow, a new riddle is up

## Re: Random Riddler....

A fish

Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It's a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other.

Fear is not evil. It tells you what your weakness is. And once you know your weakness, you can become stronger as well as kinder.

Heroes aren't born. They're made.

## Re: Random Riddler....

Again, Reessiel was the first one to have it correct.

With this riddle I think the answer explains it for when you read the riddle again it all comes clear.

will post a new riddle shortly

## Re: Random Riddler....

- Answer:
- cut it into quarters with 2 cuts, then stack all 4 pieces and cut it in half leaving you with 8 pieces made in a grand total of 3 cuts.

Damn Rees, give others a chance, but that's indeed one way to do it... I'll leave this up for others to get the second way...
